you saved me

I was on the verge of growing old
before your time
before the ripping of the scroll
the coming of the dawn
I was growing cold before I met you
in the melancholy valley
I was so untouched

by the flame of your bliss
by the word on your lips

but you saved me
you gave me faith
and hope
and love
and rain
and you saved me

saved me from the rabid train
who's wheels are made of gravy

you saved me from the catherine wheel
inside my mind
saved me from those prying lies
the pity and fear
the endless lines
of tearless emptiness
only you and no-one else
you came and made me whole again
you saved me from myself
I was on the edge of reason
unamused by self deception
untoward and heaven bent
primed by logic's deformed sadness
human voices drowned by rip tides
tore my soul like sharks in frenzy
progress came in waves of conflict
I was lost beneath her shards of loss –

in red and blue
as I know now
that I am known
the begotten come home
the forgotten comes true
as if by resurrection
my pain is you

but you saved me
you gave me faith
and hope
and love
and rain
and you saved me

saved me from the rabid train
who's wheels are made of gravy.
