Dogfish

I can see you from the desert
Pink as Peppa
Monochrome
Emerging soft as summer’s skyscape
in the slow and hollow dawn
The sun is nude and pink and muddy
oscillating in my brain
I conceive you like a feather
Sparrowing wing of an eagle
You are the current I am a swan
I am the selfish bungling giant
You are the heady scent of clover
Wash my orange beak and warts

The desert wind is blowing coolly
Bringing rain
To assuage the star flowers
Of their ancient aching thirst
And they'll bloom in orange fountains
Beneath your Pasolini feet
I am a shark
I am a shadow
Swimming in the shallows
Of your starlight

Eliot said "here I am,
an old man in a dry month,
being read to by a boy,
waiting for rain"
I can only long
From the window of a train
I’m just a dogfish really
Please tread softly
On my howl.
