Identify yourself…

Identify yourself with the Indians and get shot by the cowboys
Identify yourself with the cold and shiver in a blanket
Identify yourself with the mountains and melt into the sea
Identify yourself with tomorrow and wail to exist

Identify yourself with culture with nature with words
Identify yourself with the other with nurture with rain
Identify with your nation with Plato with rust
Identify your hero your anima your taste

Identify with the dreary the vivid the damned
Identify the hollow in the palm of your plans
Identity crumbles with each passing wind
Set fire to your shadow and scatter her darts

Forget your departures your zealous delusions
Projections unbutton the pants of this world
Blood suck your innocence with thought-transfusion
Words are the fingers that get up your nose

Opinions ideas beliefs
Nothing comes of it; they
Never made a leaf grow
Never swept an ocean
Never created but copied
Flickering shadows
On the wall of the dead
In the hall of the known
Like worms in one’s head

Identify yourself or risk immolation
What is your colour your purpose your shoe size
Identify yourself to the sentry, tradition
Identify your role your i.q. the width of your thighs
Identify yourself what’s your position
Who is your master – the name of your tribe?
I am the cowboy who wants to be an Indian
I am the fruit on a sculpture of lies

Deprogram me beloved
Let me do your being
Separations made of thought
Are the broken wheels I’m spinning
No-one knows this thief like you do
No-one trusts this speck of night
I don’t know me but I trust you’ll just
Obliterate my drunken heart
Hold me up like a prayer in motion
Bury my happy sad and laughing mask
At the bottom of the ocean.
